A Homeless Man Gets the Makeover of His Life

So, you’ve probably seen the video of this guy doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter. The 55-year-old Jose Antonio, a homeless man from Majorca who got the makeover of his life. Well, we’re going to show you again, because this really is a cool story!

Jose was well known around the small Spanish island, having spent the last 25 years living on the streets. It was nearly two years ago that Jose made it known he was looking for a job and a girlfriend, and that was when La Salvajeria Salon stepped in.

The boys and girls at La Slavajeria gave Jose a complete makeover, new clothes, haircut etc. The confidence boost this gave him clearly lasted, as 18 months later, Jose had found a job and an apartment.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Jose said:

‘I doubt any of these changes would have happened if it wasn’t for the help of people like the hair salon owner and other locals who have assisted me to get back on my feet. I’ll be eternally grateful to them. It’s not just a change of looks. It’s changed my life.’

What we can take from this, is that a simple act of kindness to a brother goes a very long way indeed. Finally, we should remember that the percentage of men living rough, due to hitting hard times, such as job loss, unfair divorce settlements etc, as opposed to women, is astronomically high, and something needs to be done about that!

What started off as a bet over a beer between two friends has now become an internationally recognized label and a dream come true for friends Leith Testoni and Jonathan Yeo of premium menswear label Zanerobe. When asked how Zanerobe came to be, the duo recalled seeing a guy dressed in a hideous striped shirt that prompted Jono to bet Leith, who originally had the more prominent interest in fashion, that he couldn’t design a better shirt. In Jono’s words: ‘It was on.’

The unique name was a joint decision between the boys; ZANE from Leith’s longing to be called that name as a kid, and ROBE from Jono’s reworking of the French word “garde robe” (an old piece of French furniture that held clothing). In just over a week a business name was registered, logo developed, and a 6-8 piece shirting collection designed and hawked to a select few boutique clothing stores in Sydney. Within two years, Zanerobe presented a full menswear collection.

Today, Zanerobe is synonymous with strength and masculinity, and the collection is known internationally for quality workmanship and clever, bold designs like the Sureshot Chino and Slingshot Jean. In recent times, the label has embarked on an alternate journey with their collection designs—paths that explore the realms and nuances of fashion through music and art—and the popularity of the brand has intensified globally.
